Welcome to the Back Roads of Providence. My wish is that this site serves as a place of encouragement for those finding themselves traveling the roads of grief. In December of 2018, my seventeen year old son lost his life in a car accident and my family was left with the process of finding our way down an unexpected and unknown road to travel together. We sought out resources from people who had suffered similar losses. We wanted to share the journey and not travel alone. My hope is that if you find yourself in the same position that this series of devotions will help you travel that path and know that you are not alone.
We often have plans for our lives. We assume that we understand the days ahead and have an understanding of milestones that lay before us. The loss of a child changes everything. Suddenly your life has been detoured and you find yourself on the back roads of life. These roads are not the way you planned but they provide a new and unexpected journey.
Providence refers to God’s care for us on these roads that were unexpected by us but were not a surprise to Him. We have a limited view on the roads we travel but God sees all of the parts of our journey.
I have dedicated myself to writing fifty-two devotions. I will share a devotion each week. These devotions will start on the one year anniversary of my son’s passing. I hope they share what I have learned about my own faith since his loss and provide encouragement for those finding themselves on a similar path.
